Part II: The Man or the Myth
You are correct. The storm was a curse to a night that was so perfectly mundane.
The storm made the sea erupt with wildness and danger that would create fear amongst any sailor. The sea was unforgiving that night and for one ship it showed no mercy, or so we were told.
A man showed up on my doorstep that night claiming his ship had crashed upon the rocky coast and he needed a place to rest. Of course, without hesitation, we welcomed him to our home.
Living by the sea my whole life I understand its temper and I am aware that sometimes it's unpredictable; it can be necessary to escape such dangerous waters.
I will forever regret letting this man into my home. It was my naivety that led to myself and Jane losing the Anne we once knew and for that, I will never forgive myself.
Would you let a stranger seek refuge in your home during a storm?
